Many of you have observed that our logo has an Asian element. That’s because you’re noticing that the circle is an ink-brush drawing in the sumi-e style, which has been practiced for over 1,000 years in China, Japan and Korea. Sumi-e tries to distill the essence of an object into a few brushstrokes.
At Pop Karma, we aim to capture the essence of wholesome joy and inspiration in a few healthy, organic ingredients.
The circle was considered a divine or perfect shape by medieval scholars. In sumi-e, it is called an enso, which is a symbol for enlightenment or eternity.
In Zen, an enso is often explained as “a circle like vast space, lacking nothing, and nothing in excess.” That also explains our popcorn – it lacks nothing but has nothing in excess. Our job is to create a divine tasting, inspirationally flavored, perfectly seasoned snack that nurtures your body with good ingredients so you can be fueled on your quest of finding enlightenment. Go get ’em!
